“Under the weather”是甚麼意思?

外國人朋友跟你說”I was under the weather last week.”，甚麼叫做”under the weather”「在天氣下面」?

其實”Under the weather”是指「身體不舒服」，這句話的出處跟航海有關。

以前交通沒那麼方便，出遠門都要坐船，而且一坐就要坐好幾天，甚至超過一個月。那時候的船不像現在的郵輪那麼穩，只要風浪大一點，整艘船會晃得很厲害，連在船上工作的水手都會暈船，這時候只能讓他們到甲板下的房間休息，這也是 “Under the weather”的由來。

A: 上禮拜在Jenny的派對沒見到你。
B: Yeah, I was under the weather last week so I didn’t go.
B: 對啊，上禮拜身體不舒服，所以沒有去。

B: Yeah, I had a high fever for three days, but I’m feeling much better now.
B: 我連續三天發高燒，但是現在好很多了。
