Some people think career success is the most crucial indicator of a good, meaningful life. Personally, I completely disagree with the idea and would argue that there are more important aspects for us to take into consideration.

It is undeniable that work does constitute an important part of life, as career fulfilment can bring an individual a sense of achievement in a way nothing else can. Maslows hierarchy of Needs suggests that one needs to achieve his or her full potential, mostly through realizing career goals, to obtain peak experiences and self-actualization. Life can seem to be a bit less challenging and exciting without job fulfilment, especially for workaholics or those with a Type A personality. Therefore, it is safe to say that career development is no less than one of the most important things in a person's life.

In spite of the points made above, I believe that there are other equally, if not more, significant elements that contribute to the meaning of one's life. Health, for one thing, is a factor whose importance can never be overemphasized. The joy brought by career success can seem to be nothing but negligible and pointless without health, which is undoubtedly the cornerstone of life, no matter successful or not. Another important part is close relationship, which is the decisive factor of a happy life according to The Grant Study, a medical study conducted by Harvard Medical School. The study underwent a whole period of 75 years and involved nearly a thousand respondents, reaching the conclusion that a successful life is not achieved by wealth or fame, but happy, satisfying relationships with family and friends.

In conclusion, I believe that work is not the most important thing in life.
